Alan Reed’s Summer Exhibition
Alan Reed is a famous watercolour artist based in Ponteland, Newcastle upon Tyne. On Saturday and Sunday, he held his Summer Exhibition preview.
I’ve been working with Alan for the last 8 years designing his exhibition invitations. I knew straightaway I wanted to pop along and see his exhibition in person. Over the years, I’ve become to used to seeing Alan Reed’s paintings, but there were new ones I hadn’t seen yet, which was a pleasure to see.
There’s one painting in the exhibition which stands out; The Response, a commission.
“He gave the memorial to the city to commemorate the raising of the World War I Commercial Battalions of the 5th Northumberland Fusiliers by the Newcastle Chamber of Commerce and also to celebrate the safe return of his five sons from the Great War.”
Alan Reed has painted a piece of real history in The Response and made history himself too by adding more figures to the painting. The last few figures on the right include himself, his daughter Louise and her children Ewan and Anya. The last soldier is Alan’s great Grandfather, Thomas Reed.
I completely appreciate Alan’s paintings with all the time and effort that’s gone into them.
The summer exhibition continues until 18th July:
